Cacao is our favourite plant medicine. Suitable for everyday use and home ceremony, this heart centered plant has a plethora of health, well-being and spiritual benefits. We stock Keith’s Cacao because we’ve experienced it to be one of the most consistent cacaos for quality and effect available in Ireland and its direct trade and ethically sourced in Central America, where cacao is intended to grow.
We include our personal recipe card with instructions on how to craft a smooth cup of cacao with every new order.
If you’re buying a bar of cacao from us it will yield 11 ceremonial servings of 42g or 18 daily use servings of 25g. What we mean by that is you can use the cacao to bring you into a deep state of heart opening, enhanced meditation, creativity and relaxation with 42g. Or!, if you’re intending to start your day with a cup of cacao in place of coffee or have a cup for your daily meditation and then go about your business, 25g is the perfect amount to support you physically and spiritually for a nourished and grounded start to the day.
If you want to have a slow, long lasting effect, add some warmed or frothed non-dairy milk to it. For a deeper practice, make it just with water. You may add sweeteners, salt or other plant allies like herbs, spices, rose tinctures etc to your cup as you feel called!
Crafted to enchant the artistic soul, Keith’s cacao paste is the perfect partner in the pursuit of music, art, dance, yoga, meditation, and spiritual or shamanic practice. Trusted by cacao practitioners and ideal for the workplace, Keith’s Cacao can enhance insight, presence, and focus.
Notes to consider;
Cacao is bitter:
100% pure cacao is bitter. As with any bitter, too much can make you nauseous. Most drink less than 2 to 3 ounces (57 to 85 grams) of cacao a day. Over time, as your body attunes to the cacao, you may find that you need less cacao to feel the full effect. Less can be more. Pay attention to what your body is telling you.
Antidepressants:
Depending on dose, SSRI antidepressants and anti-psychotics are not compatible with the MAOI’s (Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors) in cacao. Low to average doses should be ok, people on higher doses should drink less cacao. Check with your doctor.
Heart Rate:
Our cacao will raise your heart rate slightly. If an increase in your heart rate could cause a medical problem, drink less. Check with your doctor.
Blood Pressure:
Many folks with low blood pressure tell Keith that our cacao (low-caffeine) stabilizes their heart and helps them. Check with your doctor.
Other substances:
Our cacao increases blood flow to the brain by 30-40%… so any other substances in your blood will be amplified.
Caffeine:
Keith is often asked by people with a caffeine intolerance if they can use cacao. The caffeine content of cacao varies widely amongst cacao varieties and cacao makers. Keith’s Cacao has only trace amounts of caffeine.
Pregnant and nursing women:
Most babies, in or out of the womb, do really well with mom consuming our cacao. Keith Wilson, the founder of Keith’s Cacao, recommended 1oz (28gm) in the first 2 trimesters, about 2/3oz (20gm) dose in the last trimester. Many pregnant women, including Alice, found that they can continue to drink cacao the same way as before with no negative side effects, work with what your body tells you. There are a few fetuses and breast-fed babies that do not like cacao… it is not a problem, but they will let you know so start easy and find what is right for you. We recommend 2/3oz (20gm) while breast feeding until it is clear how the infant reacts.
Children:
Use less, according to the child’s body weight. It depends on the child. They will let you know. Children who have had an appropriate amount of cacao are more focused.
Pets:
Real cacao contains compounds that can kill dogs, cats, parrots, and horses. Don’t let them eat it!
Dairy
Do not mix cacao with animal milks or eat large quantities of dairy directly before or after taking cacao as it will create digestive discomfort.
