Pregnancy

At Macha Yoga we’ve had the privilege of supporting so many women on their pregnancy and post partum journeys both at Lara’s specialist Prenatal Yoga class, and in general classes facilitated by our teachers trained in prenatal yoga. I myself have taught yoga through 2 pregnancies right up to the end of the third trimester, and many of our clients continue to practice regularly throughout their journey.

During pregnancy…

If you are an existing client and you become pregnant, please feel free to continue your yoga practice as normal unless you’ve been explicitly advised by your doctor or midwife you have a reason to avoid exercise. If you are a new client and are pregnant, provided you have some experience in yoga, you are welcome to join any of the classes by teachers experienced in prenatal yoga.

To help you understand how your body will change and your practice can adapt, we’ve developed a guidebook breaking down considerations and recommendations for each trimester, download it here.

In May 2026 we will launch our online course for practicing yoga throughout pregnancy at learn.machayoga.com.

We recommend avoiding Yin Yoga until 14-16 weeks, and trying Hatha or Hatha Flow classes as a starting point to test out how yoga feels in your body before you continue to more vigorous styles.

Teachers who are prepared to support pregnant clients include:

Alice,
Manasi,
Cat,
Jenna,
Gilly,
Siobhan
Check our master timetable to get their classes.

Please inform the teacher you are pregnant as soon as you are comfortable.

Pre-natal Yoga Course with Lara

Lara hosts pre-natal yoga at the studio every Wednesday at 7.45pm, this is the perfect class for birth preparation and using the multitude of tools within yoga for preparation for a healthy, calm and happy pregnancy, birth and post-partum. You must be more that 14 weeks pregnant to join the class and it is subject to a waitlist at all times. To book in please email Lara directly and let her know how many weeks along you are so she can allocate a spot to you.

After pregnancy…

You can return to class from 6 weeks post partum after an uncomplicated delivery. This can vary if you experienced caesarian section, birth injury, pro-lapse or significant diastis recti. Please consult your GP, midwife or nurse to confirm you are well to exercise if you are unsure. If you are returning early in postpartum please let us know so we can support you properly. Once again we recommend starting with gentle classes, Yin, Hatha, Hatha Flow & Yin Yang are all suitable for your first classes back.
